A Cross Weekend

So you thought they only did Cross racing in Belgium? Folly! Lies! The PNW has a huge cyclocross scene which is incredibly well supported. For those of you who don't know what it is, it involves going round a course on muddy grass and jumping over obstacles while carrying your bike. A bit like steeplechase on bikes.

On 18th September we headed off to Starcrossed for the first big event of the season. True to form, it was also the first heavy rain we've had for weeks!

Terry, Kimberley and I were well atired in our woolen cardies and nylon vests. Thank goodness for swag bags.

Tony took refuge under the Nuun stand. This takes complete hydration to a new level.

British lass Helen Wyman took the pro women's race by a country mile. Tony and I were thinking of British things to shout at her to spur her on. 'Pull your finger out' obviously helped.

Some other chaps had a megaphone and were assisting with classics such as, 'Your milkshake would bring more boys to the yard if you were faster.'

Here are the guys heading up the hill.

And the resulting mud on the winner!
We loved it so much, Tony decided it was time for him to get his cross legs and get the Punk bike on the road.
The next day.....

Sunshine!
We went to Steilacoom with the Burkes and it was a real family affair. Talon was in the 10 - 12 race for his first of the season. They do the same course as the adults just fewer laps. I walked up one of the hills with him and I was out of breath. Way to go Talon!

Here he is negotiating one of the barriers.

And here's one of the pro women making her way up that hill.
Tony and Dean took part in the Singlespeed category. Tony was leading at the first corner and I was very excited :) Tony finished 8th, Dean and official 15th.

In the mean time Logan was taking an intensive course in log walking. No hands and head up. Good lad!

This is the view from the top of that hill, just to show you the ever-present Mt. Rainier. It's the white peak to the right.
What fun. Can't wait til next weekend.

Apologies

Please accept our many and sincere alpologies for the lack of activity in the last few weeks. It's not that we've not been doing anything, because we have, it is because I not have a job that involves 8 hours a day sitting at a computer. Consequently the last thing I want to do when I get home is Blog!

So now I've had a couple of days off, I'm ready for a few updates. They're not going to be in the right order, but they'll be here.

Hope you're all well and getting ready to visit!
